Pedodontics

The period in which the foundations of oral and dental health as well as the general health system are laid is childhood. Baby teeth usually begin to erupt in the mouth at 6 months. It is expected that a total of 20 baby teeth erupt by the 36th month. Baby teeth have a very important task in the mouth at the age of 12. These mainly serve for chewing, speech, aesthetics and most importantly as a space saver for permanent teeth. For this reason, baby teeth should not be pulled out if possible. They should be treated and left to fulfill their function in the mouth until the end. If there is a tooth that cannot be treated and needs to be extracted, it is of great importance to keep the path of the permanent tooth, which will come from below, unblocked by replacing the extracted tooth with placeholder appliances after the it is extracted. Otherwise, that gap is closed and there is no room for the permanent tooth. Thus, the tooth that needs to be used for the rest of one's life will either remain embedded or will erupt into the mouth at a wrong angle. This will require more costly and harder treatments.
